Shirley Aley Campbell is a distinguished,
internationally recognized figurative
painter. According to Ed Henning, former
Curator of Modern Art at the Cleveland
Museum of Art,
“She is bright, witty, sensitive and adventurous . . . an artist who has traveled the world – and delved into the hearts of those who inhabit it. From the mighty to the misfit, the forgotten and the forlorn, her quest has been to understand, reveal and record.”
Powerful renderings of figures in unusual perspectives are her trademark.
Professor Emerita of Art at the Cleveland Institute of Art and Cuyahoga Community College, Campbell has had a long successful career as an exhibiting artist and educator. She has won numerous awards and her work is in the collections of the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Butler Institute of American Art, Evanston Museum of Art, Kansas City Museum of Art, the UCLA Collection, California, and in many private collections throughout the United States. Her lectures and demonstrations on figure drawing have inspired generations of emerging artists.
